Howie Blake and Dobie Tinkerman were two friends who weren't looking for much out of life. All they wanted was a way to make a living and a good town to settle down in. When they met Waldo Fritz it looked like they might have at least found a paying job, armed robbery. Waldo tried hard to teach them the ways of an outlaw, but their hearts just weren't in it. When they finally get some money together, Howie and Dobie parted ways with Waldo and set out to leave their old lives behind. A great read. Enjoyed it immensely but it was all too short a novel. Completed it in a few sittings. Couldn't let it set. Had to finish it. Great writing Doug Hirt!

Good book
I finished reading A Good Town a week ago and I am still thinking about it. Howie and Tink are best friends, who grew up together in Bisbee, Arizona. They are young men bored with their hometown life and then they meet Waldo, who spells TROUBLE! This is a great story about friendship, honor, betrayal and the need for finding ones self. Douglas Hirt is a compassionate writer, who never lets the reader down and he knows the human heart. A Good Town is a keeper and I will enjoy reading it over again.
“A Good Town” is an enjoyable Western adventure story based around two young men trying to find their way in life but that keep getting in to trouble instead. It’s written in a way that will transport you into that time and place, with plenty of dialogue and interesting characters to meet along the way.
Douglas Hirt is the master of westerns. His stories are always intriguing and crisply written.
Howie is 17 and destined to work in the copper mines like all the men in Bisbee but he wants more from life. He's offered a job at the mine on his 17th birthday which he could have accepted and settled down to a dull predictable life. He faces a choice to become a miner or join his friends Waldo and Tink who plan to seek their adventure in Tucson. The first thing they do is buy guns then they rob a drug store. Waldo has inspirations for 'big grand capers' Tink wants a 'good town to hunker down to' and Howie wants to 'see the world but it was going to take money'. Waldo decides they need to make a reputation for themselves. In this great story find out how they do this. Is there a good town waiting for them as they move across America's Wild West?
Hard to follow and boring. Sorry I wasted my time with the read!
Book came downloaded with pages all mixed up. Unable to read.
I enjoyed this book.
